MAESTRO researchers participate in annual Summer Retreat

Posted on September 1, 2019 by Darren J. Hartl

MAESTRO graduate students, select undergraduates, and guests Jim and Chris Mabe pose after the 2019 annual retreat.

In what has become a tradition, MAESTRO students and affiliated researchers retreated to the Texas Gulf Coast for multiple days of technical and social activities. The event was held in Port Alto, Texas, which is the hometown of Dr. Hartl. A limestone bay-side home known as the “Texas Courthouse” was rented for the occasion. Presentations included practice runs for the 2019 ASME SMASIS conference, introductions of new concepts for possible future research efforts, and a “proposal writing” workshop. Jim Mabe of Boeing also presented his “What Not to Do When You Are Presenting” talk. Social activities included boat rides, games, and a sometimes heated discussion on the federal funding priorities regarding space exploration.

Suggestions are already being entertained regarding the location and activities for next year’s retreat.
