Fluid-structure interaction analysis of slat retraction with an installed SMA slat cove filler.
Wings transitioning to high-lift configurations can experience dicontinuities in their aerodynamic surfaces, resulting in high levels of airframe noise. This research seaks to reduce this noise using shape memory alloys that can smooth out the discontinuities, withstand aerodynamic loads, and reconfigure as the airframe and associated surfaces reconfigure.
