Jacob studied at the University of Florida for an Bachelor’s of Science in Materials Science and Engineering where he was first introduced to shape memory alloys. Wanting to explore new applications for such exotic materials, he began his graduate studies at Texas A&M under Dr. Hartl. His first project was funded by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research to study room-temperature liquid metals as a multifunctional heating and cooling system to increase the heat transfer and therefore actuation frequency of large 3D-printed shape memory alloys. He is now a PhD Candidate exploring new ways to utilize shape memory alloys in conjunction with liquid metals.
